I remember reading an article in the <em>New York Times<\/em> in which Dr. Christopher B. Zachary, a professor of dermatology at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine, called oxygen treatments mythical and of no benefit to the skin. &#8220;The concept that high-pressure oxygen would do anything to help the skin is such nonsense as to be laughable.&#8221; His opinion is based on the fact that there have been no clinical studies that demonstrate the results of this type of treatment. However, if we look at the effects of an oxygen facial, they tell another story.<\/p><p>After an oxygen treatment, our skin immediately looks smoother, brighter, and healthier. But it is important to understand the workings behind the procedure in order to, in turn, understand the benefits. Poorly oxygenated skin looks dull and tired, and a lack of oxygen increases the speed with which the skin ages. So, logically, oxygenating the skin would improve its appearance. Plus, an oxygen treatment goes beyond just infusing the epidermis with oxygen.
