Black is a timeless hue, regardless of the season or your style. From dresses and suits to bags and shoes, black is a universal color.
Many people think that an all-black look can be boring–creativity giving way to monotony. But this couldn’t be further from the truth. Putting together an all-black look black requires a high level of creativity and maybe even a little bit of magic. It’s not easy to create a look in just one tone, but if you pull this off, you’ll look elegant, classic, and timeless.
Over the decades, we’ve seen many designers capture this hue in famous garments. Coco Chanel was one of the designers who managed to demonstrate the chicness of black, “I have said that black has it all. Their beauty is absolute. It is the perfect harmony,” she said, and transmitted this harmony to fashion with her Little Black Dress: a garment so versatile and elegant it remains a wardrobe staple to this day. The color became a symbol of sensuality when Yves Saint Laurent introduced his now legendary tuxedo. And, this sexy vibe was followed up by designers like as Versace or Alaïa. Finally, we began to see it into minimalist pieces from designers like Michael Kors, Bottega Veneta, and Celine. It’s a multifaceted tone that, like a phoenix, comes up from the ashes every season.
In the Fall ‘21 collections, we saw black crowned as one of season’s top shades. Wes Gordon aat Carolina Herrera modernized the two-piece suit with heart-shaped embroidery to give it a more youthful air, while Nicolas Di Felici at Courrèges created a contrasting combo with a leather jacket and a long pleated skirt, bringing a biker aesthetic to the look. The hue dominated Valentino’s collection, being used in each of the brand’s looks, showing the versatility this color. Dior reinterpreted the LBD in leather with a ladylike silhouette—keeping the look current and seductive. Fendi transformed the tuxedo into a minimalist jumpsuit, while Lanvin added a glamorous sheen by embroidering sequins onto a classic maxi dress. These are just a few examples of how great designers and fashion brands continue to use this hue, each creating garments that are full of elegance and empower women.
Dare to wear an all-black look, no matter what the occasion. Choosing this color is a safe bet, and you’ll look elegant, sexy, and perfect from head to toe.
