A good coat is a staple in any wardrobe, so express your personality with the perfect one. This Resort 22 season, there are a wide variety of options to choose from.
There are certain musts for every closet, and one of them is a coat. A good coat is an excellent investment, and if you choose the right one, it will last you years and never go out of style. Elegant coats are classic and timeless and will always make you look spectacular.
When choosing the right coat for you, there are certain steps you should take before purchasing. First, figure out what type of silhouette works well for your body. Everyone is different. If you are very tall, a long coat will be your best option, but if you are short, it’s best to opt for one that only comes to the knees. Then, you should read up on coat materials. Natural fibers, such as wool or cashmere, will help your coat retain its original beauty despite the passing of time. Finally, and most importantly, look for a coat that makes you feel comfortable, that suits your style, and that you can combine with different items in your closet.
The designers are giving us lots of options for coats in their Resort 22 collections–different styles, silhouettes, and hues. Here is a brief cheat sheet on coat trends to consider. I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot of them in coming months.
This season’s coats–whether knit, wool, neoprene, or tweed– come in striking shades. We’re seeing garments with oversized silhouettes, cut-outs, and different lengths. There are plenty of classic and edgy coats, all in kaleidoscopic hues. Valentino gave us a dark mauve coat with embroidery, and Sportmax gave us one in an apricot tone. Burberry went with pink, while Stella McCartney opted for a modern, sporty cobalt color. There were also coats in fiery orange, pistachio green, cerulean, and more.
A coat in this shade will never go out of style. The interesting thing about this color is that it’s not really just one shade, and that gives us the opportunity to choose one that suits our taste. You can choose a classic tone like the one from Fendi or paler hue like the coat from the Jonathan Simkhai collection. This season’s silhouettes and styles offer great variety. We find traditional coats at Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini and more avant-garde ones at Monse. Gabriela Hearst gave us a shorter silhouette, while Max Mara gives us oversized maximalism.
Mix and match
I recommend this trend only if you already have a classic piece in your closet. In their Resort 22 collections, several designers gave us a range of multicolored coats—monochrome garments, but in different intensities and with shapes. Just take the teddy-style coats that we saw from Bottega Veneta. We also saw coats with a small accent of color. Coach proposed short coats with lines in contrasting tones. Then, we saw color-blocked patchwork coats from Marni, making a classic garment extraordinary.
A teddy coat is one of the coziest kinds that exist. These coats are perfect for cold cities. They are statement pieces that add an air of elegance and opulence to an outfit. Look for a coat in wool, alpaca, or shearling to keep you warm while you look your best. Max Mara—the brand that created this style in 2013—gave us a pale pink version this year while Balenciaga opted for lime. Marni gave us an option in dark burgundy and St. John showed us something more classic.
This striking, extravagant, energetic color was crowned the favorite of designers for the Resort 22 season. Happy, light, joyful, and fun–all these feelings are reflected in yellow coats. New York designer Tory Burch gave us long coats in this hue with red accents, and Bottega Veneta opted for a textured coat in this color. Proenza Schouler went with a version of the teddy coat in yellow, while Oscar de la Renta and Ralph Lauren prefered more classic silhouettes.
