A few days ago I was talking to a very dear friend of mine, and we were discussing fabulousness (kind of random topic, I know) and what makes us look twice at certain people and consider them, just in seconds, fabulous, just like that! And I really think is just a matter of finding your personal style, but what exactly is finding your personal style? (something some of you have been asking me in some posts). Well, lets try to find out!
I think one of the best ways to start the journey of discovering your own personal style, is remembering what you loved when you were a child: what were your favorite things? Did you love to paint, or practicing sports? Or maybe you were a girlie-girl? Remember all those things you were passionate about, all those clothes you were comfortable wearing, and we can start from there.
Finding your personal style definitely doesn’t mean coping every single new trend you see for the season, but is undeniable that we need some inspiration, specially if you are a visual person, just like me. So once you have an idea of what you loved as a kid, you can search inspiration to create a style that fits. Where? Magazines, fashion shows, fashion blogs (you can always check my fashion section here in my blog you know?), movies, videos… almost everywhere! Check what is considered a classic piece and what are the trends for the season and start choosing what fits into the style you are creating. During this process, I’ve find that a moodboard is very helpful!
Next step? Learn what you feel comfortable wearing and what you don’t. No matter how gorgeous a piece is, if you don’t like how it looks on you or you don’t feel comfortable wearing it, it is going to be kind of difficult for you to look fabulous wearing that! That doesn’t mean that you have to stick in your comfort zone and only there, take some risks and experiment wearing new things, adopting new trends, and not only with clothes, but also with makeup! Use an eyeshadow you never tried before and see if you like it, be bold and play around with fashion!
The most important thing in discovering your personal style, for me has always been having fun in the process. I think the moment you start seeing this process as a duty, it’s time to take a break and choose something different. I also think it’s important to remember that this is a process constantly evolving and in the making and it takes some practice to find the perfect style you want to communicate, but I suggest you to remember that you are trying to show who you are and not who you are supposed to be!
