Meditating always helps at the start of a new day, and in this case, a new year.

It is well known that meditation gives us certain benefits, like reducing long-term stress and improving the immune system. When we finish a year, it is very important to take stock and reflect on what we left behind, and, of course, bring in the new year with the best energy possible. Here is a meditation you can do to live in the present and make room for positive manifestations for your life. It’s a great way to start 2022. Enjoy it!

To get started, get out two sheets of paper and a pencil. Sit in the garden or in a place that you find quiet and comfortable. Light a candle or some incense. Open your chest by pulling your shoulders back. Close your eyes and focus your attention on your breathing. Feel the air move in and out of your body. Try to return your attention to your breathing any time you lose focus and this will calm your body and mind.

Then take three breaths: inhale and exhale through your nose. If your thoughts go to the future or the past, bring yourself back into the present with your breathing. A good way to let your thoughts go is to think of them as clouds and watch them drift away. Then, with your eyes still closed, imagine a door and examine details like the texture, material, color, size, the hardware, etc. Turn your body around, as if you wanted to turn to face the past year and think about everything that happened in it. Don’t hold back. Remember both the good and the bad. Everything serves us.

Now, open your eyes and divide the sheet of paper into two columns. On one side, write all the positive things about the past year and on the other, write down the unpleasant ones. On the same page, write the word “thank you” and list everything you learned and experienced and that helped you grow. Burn the sheet and leave the ashes in a place with water or bury them. This is how you can symbolically close out 2021. Close your eyes again and visualize that door again, but now without the weight of the last year that you just let go of. Open that door and go through it. It is 2022.

Once inside, ask yourself: What do I want to see, hear, and feel in 2022? What kind of bond do I want to have with myself and with others? What values do I want to practice on a daily basis? What was useful to me about 2021 that I now have as a resource? How do I want to feel physically, mentally, and emotionally? How can I become my best self? What 5 micro-actions can I do to achieve what I want in 2022? Write these answers on another sheet of paper and at the top write: “What I want for myself in 2022.” Finally, manifest, visualize, and dream about that new space that you deserve. Remember, if you believe in something, you can make it come true. Have a great 2022!
