Yesterday our feeds were taken over by looks from the red carpet of the Met Gala, known as “fashion’s biggest night.” This charity event is held to raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
The Met Gala welcomes celebrities, creative minds, and models. Both 2021 and 2022 have been dedicated to American fashion. This year, the theme is “In America: An Anthology of Fashion.” and will launch on May 5, 2022 in the American Wing. Both the 2021 and 2022 exhibitions will be open to the public until September 5, 2022.
The queen of the night was undoubtedly Kim Kardashian who wore one of her most iconic dresses, nicknamed the “Happy Birthday Mr. President Dress” previously worn by Marilyn Monroe when she sang to President John F. Kennedy 60 years ago. Kim had to lose nearly 18 pounds to fit into the Jean Louis gown purchased in 2016 by the museum from Ripley’s Believe or Not! for $4.81 million dollars. Kim walked the red carpet on the arm of her boyfriend Pete Davidson and sported platinum hair. As reported by Vogue, Kim only wore the original dress up the steps of the Met, changing into a replica after that.
Co-host of the night, Blake Lively wore a reversible Atelier Versace ball gown and came down the red carpet the arm of her husband, Ryan Reynolds, who went for a velvet tuxedo. The couple co-hosted along with Ana Wintour, who has run the gala since 1995. Wintour wore a feathered Chanel dress and tiara that has been in her family since 1910. Other co-hosts included Tom Ford, Adam Mosseri, Regina King, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Among the most photographed looks of the night was that Billie Eilish, who went for Gucci look made with recycled materials. She has repeatedly mentioned that she wants to be as eco-friendly as possible and she proved it with this look. Alicia Keys’ Ralph Lauren dress was inspired by her hometown of New York, made up of a cape that outlined the skyline in crystals. Her husband, Swizz Beatz, also a New York native, donned a varsity jacket with the city’s logo.
One of my favorite looks of the night was Hailey Bieber’s—a very elegant Saint Laurent dress paired with white feather coat. I also liked Kate Moss in a velvet tuxedo dress also from Saint Laurent. The Met Gala never disappoints and as we look at the photos from the red carpet, we know why. It’s a dream come true for all fashion lovers!
