The nostalgia of the 90s and early 2000s are the primary inspiration for the jeans that the top brands have presented for SS22.

In addition to the nostalgia of other times, the influence of Generation Z that has served as inspiration for many designers.  Just look at the new trendy silhouettes for jeans that range from ultra baggy to extra wide leg to flared.  They are joined by denim pieces such as crop tops, mini skirts, mini shorts, high boots, shoes, bucket hats— everything you can imagine.  

The idea is to bring back the Y2K aesthetic in a way that feels refreshed and modern.  One example is Vetements—a Gen Z favorite—which introduced a wide selection of skater-inspired baggy jeans and other ’90s-inspired oversized silhouettes. Some brands, like Balenciaga, Gucci and Gianni,  even went for logo prints that reminded us of the ravers of those times.  Another trend for jeans is upcycling (reusing materials) to make other pieces, which results in jeans with patchwork finishes like those from Dolce & Gabbana. 

The idea of ​​the new trends in jeans is to wear something that feels unique and very personal.  It is printing the freedom of style and creativity on the jeans we wear and moving away from conventions. Everything goes in terms of fashion for this season, the more ”out there,” the better.  Dare with distressed, faded finishes, whimsical silhouettes, cutouts and fun details.  You can combine them with crop tops— very much in the Gen Z vein—and give them a more glam touch with stilettos and colorful accessories that remind us why it is so much fun to love fashion.
