A good pair of shoes can brighten your day. But, the best kind are red and sparkly–jewelry for our feet.

There are many iconic shoes, such as the legendary Chanel boots by Andy Sachs, Cinderella’s glass slippers, or Carrie Bradshaw’s blue satin Manolo Blahniks. These shoes have become part of popular culture, but no pair of shoes is as famous as the ruby slippers that Dorothy Gale uses to transport herself home in The Wizard of Oz.

Those kitten-heel ruby slippers covered in red sequins and with a bow detail over the toe have been inspiration for many within the fashion industry. The story behind those famous shoes is also full of magic, because in the original story the shoes were silver, but for the film–one of the first made with Technicolor technology–they decided to change the color and make the shoes more iconic. And, it couldn’t have been a better decision, because those shoes, coveted by the Wicked Witch of the West, have become as legendary as the characters in the story itself.

Ruby shoes have not only appeared in the The Wizard of Oz (1939). How could we forget Marilyn Monroe or Jane Russell in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,  Jane Foster in velvet platforms in Taxi Driver or Sandy in bright red mules in the final scene of Grease?  The fascination for red shoes goes beyond the small or big screen; this color has been worn by dancers, kings, popes, and celebrities. It denotes power, sensuality, freedom, magic, and seduction.

This is why a good pair of red, ruby, or crimson shoes should be part of any woman’s wardrobe. A pair of red pumps can elevate any look from boring to memorable. Red kitten heels can radically upgrade an everyday look and high boots can bring an enigmatic allure to an outfit.
