This month, many brands are launching their Pride collections in celebration of inclusion and diversity. But only a few of these capsule collections actually help the community.
During the month of June, the brands we love launch collections inspired by the energy of the LGBTQ + community. Whether T-shirts, sneakers, watches, or cosmetics—everything gets a rainbow-colored infusion in celebration of Pride. But with so many products at our fingertips, how can we know which to choose? Not to worry; I tasked myself with finding brands with Pride collections that donate part of their earnings to organizations that support the community.
Here is a brief list of the brands that are not only waving the rainbow LGBTQ+ flag but actually giving back:
For the past five years, this shoe brand has shown its support for the community by giving to local and international organizations. This year they launched a Pride collection, on which their team collaborated with different artists to create items that not only sport the rainbow flag but represent and celebrate the community. The best part is that a percentage of the sales from this collection will be donated to the It Gets Better Project, a program dedicated to helping LGBTQ+ youth.
Levi’s Pride collection is one of the most anticipated and sought-after year after year. The 2021 collection, entitled “All Pronouns. All Love,” is not only super cool from a design standpoint, it also aims to raise awareness about the importance of respecting people’s pronouns and creating a more inclusive world for everyone. The collection includes denim jackets, jeans, t-shirts, denim jumpsuits, and many other genderless garments. The icing on the cake is that all sales go towards supporting OutRight Action International.
The Body Shop
This brand offering cosmetics, bath products, lotions, and creams seeks not only to attract consumers with its new Pride collection, but also to raise awareness and support the community. For each product sold from the collection, they donate $1 to the Equality Federation. This organization aims to help different local associations in the United States that fight for social justice for the LGBTQ+ community and support the Equality Act.
As of last year, this cosmetics and beauty brand began to work with Trevor Project, the foremost global organization doing suicide prevention for members of the LGBTQ+ community. Not only did the brand promise to donate $150,000, it will also send all proceeds from its special edition Pride Makeup Melt makeup wipes to the organization. This is definitely an awesome way to support the community.
Since 1984, this American watch brand has been making watches that embody creative spirit, freedom, and optimism. Today, their philosophy is more present than ever, with a new Pride collection that consists of a rainbow band for their Minimalist 40mm watch. And, not only are they are showing support, they’re donating 100% of the sales from this collection to the Trevor Fund. This watch is the perfect piece for showing your support for the community all the time.
The iconic NY brand has launched its colorful “Rainbow Shop.” This Pride collection shines through its creative use of the elements of the rainbow flag on bags, t-shirts, eyeglass cases, cosmetic bags, jewelry, and shoes. There is something for anyone who wants to tell the world that #LoveisLove. 20% of the Rainbow Shop’s sales will be donated to The Trevor Project, an organization that has been important to the brand for years, so this is the perfect incentive to buy something from them.
Through its Viva Glam Project, launched in 1994, this makeup brand has managed to raise more than $500,000,000 dollars for different LGBTQ+ organizations. For MAC, supporting the community is not just a trend or fad; it is the status quo. Their makeup empowers people to show the world “This is me and I am perfect!” This year, all sales from the Viva Glam collection will be donated to organizations and foundations doing HIV prevention.
This famous designer’s Pride collection takes brand classics and infuses them with the unique, fun, cheerful LGBTQ+ spirit. The brand’s preppy style gets reinvented in a spectrum of colors, resulting in garments that are sure to become collectibles. Ralph Lauren said “What I do is about living the best life you can and enjoying the fullness of the life around you. From what you wear to the way you live to the way you love.” This collection is definitely representative of that quote, and 25% of each product is donated to the Stonewall Community Foundation.
This brand’s Pride collection is back for the 5th time. This year, they’ve launched PROUD Prom, in which Queer icons Lil Nas X and Hari Nef invite us show our support for the LGBTQ+ community. For each pair of Disco Stripe sandals sold, UGG will donate $25 to the GLAAD organization, founded in 1985 with the aim of supporting and generating awareness and visibility for members of the community. This brand is committed to promoting change in society.
In addition to these brands, there are many others that donate part of their Pride collection proceeds to organizations and foundations that seek to create positive change. And, there are also other brands that may not directly donate sales proceeds but do donate to these same organizations in other ways or work closely to support the LGBTQ+ community. As allies, it’s our responsibility to not only wear the colors of the pride flag in support but also to take real, substantial action.
