Fashion Month is not only about clothing and accessories; it’s when great creative minds and makeup artists present their beauty ideas for the upcoming season.

The Spring 22 runways shows just ended and although we have to wait a few months to wear our favorite pieces from the catwalks, that doesn’t mean we can’t start introducing the makeup trends we saw into our lives now.

In addition to showing us incredible looks from each of the designers’ collections, the catwalks are a source of inspiration in terms of makeup. It is through these shows that we get to see the irreverent, avant-garde, classic, and futuristic beauty looks that will accompany the season’s clothing.

Here is a brief list of some of the trends that we saw on the Spring 22 runways. From red lips to neon eyeshadow, the makeup had a spirit of celebration and springy optimism.

Glossy Volume

The love and nostalgia for Y2K fashion continues on, and the early-millennium lip gloss trend is back. There were tons of high-volume gloss looks on this season’s runways, so without a doubt, the “it girl” look of the early 2000s is here to stay.

We saw this trend from: Acne Studios, Blumarine, Fendi, Nina Ricci

Neon Shapes

Dramatic fluorescent and energetic colors were popular eyeshadow choices on the Spring ‘22 runways. We saw lots of cat-eyes in neon green and blue, hot pink eyeshadow in neon pink with a smokey effect, and lines that played with the shape of the eye to create a more avant-garde look.

We saw this trend from: Chloé, Prabal Gurung, Proenza Schouler, Versace

Glitter Everywhere

Several of the designers’ collections were full of shimmer…as if a shower of diamonds had fallen on the catwalk and all the models. We saw glittery eyeshadows, crystals, and shimmering body cream—all of it full of brilliant optimism.

We saw this trend from: Blumarine, Etro, LaQuan Smith, Osman

Peachy Cheeks

Coral and peach are the blush colors of the season. This is a bit of a change from previous seasons, in which pink and nude had dominated the runways. Now, a subtle hint of apricot is the hot blush color for Spring 22.

We saw this trend from: Altuzarra, Anna Sui, Fendi, Hermès

Flaming Lips

All the allure and glamor of the golden age of Hollywood was reborn in the Spring ’22 runways. Red lips are the hue of the season; it’s the perfect touch of a lively color that shows sensuality and power, whether in matte, gloss, or satin.

We saw this trend from: Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors, Naeem Khan, Saint Laurent

Creative Brush Strokes

This season our faces are to be blank canvases upon which to paint vibrant eyeliner. Funky shadows and outlines create abstract forms that remind us of paintings by Kandinsky or Miró. Without a doubt, some of the runways’ makeup trends were works of art.

We saw this trend from: Giorgio Armani, Lanvin, MSGM, Paul & Joe
