A few days ago I had a live on my Instagram with a super guest: Jacques Giraud and we talked about all those things that distract us from living our best life (if you weren’t able to see my live, go see it here!)

This live was something I was wanting to do for a while, because there are so many experts out there that can contribute to improve certain aspects of our lives, and I realized that I can bring some of said experts to you, and in that way, give back to you a little bit of all that you have given me! And now, these lives on Instagram officially are going to happen every week on Thursdays, and I’m so excited about it!

Our main topic for this first live, was all those little things we all do every day that maybe we don’t even realize it’s affecting our life’s quality. Who hasn’t experienced going to check your social media, just a quick peek you think, only to realize that one hour has gone by and you didn’t even notice! What happened? Probably that you weren’t present in the moment, and not exactly because you didn’t want to, but because you don’t know how to. It seems that being distracted has become a way of life, particularly in this digital era, where it seems you can have whatever you want whenever you want it.

So… what to do? How do we stop getting distracted to the point we forget about our goals, our life? Jacques and I talked for a little more than one hour about these issues and it was a very interesting talk, but I want to summarize what you can do to start being present in your own life:

  • Meditate. Believe me, this is a life changer! If you think it’s too complicated, find some guided meditations to help you start. I recommend you Insight Timer!
  • Have one designated day for a digital fastening! I know, I know, it’s hard staying away from our social media, but it’s not a bad idea to choose one day a month to stay way from all electronics, as Jacques suggested, or if you think that’s too much, at least stay away from your social media for a day. You’ll be able to recharge in a different way and find things inside yourself that maybe you didn’t know were there.
  • Question yourself! Question the motives you have to do the things you do, the thoughts you have, the things you like and don’t like, the activities you do through your day and the way you spend your free time. If you start making this questioning into a habit, you’ll notice all those moments that you’re consciously or not, getting distracted from what you want to do.
  • Take care of yourself! If you don’t pay attention to your needs, you’re going to be permanently distracted. And I’m not talking only about your physical needs like eating healthy or getting enough sleep. Your emotional needs are as important as your physical ones, so if you are feeling overwhelmed, give yourself a break and do something that you enjoy doing like reading a book or watching a movie.
