The Winter Escape Edit: Cold Destinations for Those Who Don't Want to Ski

If you’re anything like me, winter doesn’t automatically mean skiing. Sometimes all you want is the mood: the perfect coat, an indulgent hot chocolate, a quiet boutique hotel, and a city that looks even better covered in snow. So here it is my personal edit of cold destinations where the snow sets the scene, not the schedule. Trust me, these places are elite winter vibes. chef’s kiss.

St. Moritz — Off-Slope Culture at Its Finest

St. Moritz has that silent, immaculate glamour that only the European Alps can produce. You go for the culture, the cafés overlooking the frozen lake, the minimal-chic boutiques, and the kind of people-watching that feels straight out of an editorial. My suggestion? Long lunches at Badrutt’s and slow walks at golden hour when everything turns silver.

My recommendations:
Badrutt’s Palace Afternoon Tea: classic, perfect for seeing who's in town.
Galerie Tschudi: impeccable contemporary art.
Hot truffle at the Kulm restaurant: my winter guilty pleasure.

Aspen — The Art of Slow Luxury

Aspen is perfect if you want luxury that whispers. Galleries, museums, discreet boutique shopping, and restaurants where every table feels like a scenePro tip from me: book a long massage, walk everywhere, and let Aspen’s understated glamour do the rest.

My recommendations:
Aspen Art Museum Rooftop Café: lunch with a beautiful view and zero visual noise.
The Little Nell Lobby Bar: spectacular wines before dinner.
O₂ Spa: the massage that reboots your life.

Niseko — Para Quienes Quieren Vapor, Onsen y Pura Calma

Cold? Yes. Snow? A lot. Need to ski? Absolutely not. Niseko is for steaming onsen baths, soft cashmere, silence, and the kind of winter calm that feels healingAnd the food? Truly next level.

My recommendations:
Andaz Niseko Onsen: if you want to feel like you're floating on a warm cloud.
Kamimura: Michelin-starred dining, minimalist and precise Japanese cuisine.
Evening stroll through Hirafu Village: the snow falls as if choreographed.

Québec — Winter Charm for True Foodies

If you love food, Québec in winter is irresistible: cozy bistros, bakeries that smell like butter melting, cafés glowing in warm light, and streets that look like a film set. It’s winter that hugs you, not winter that bites.

My recommendations:
Le Saint-Amour: one of my favorites for dinner in winter.
Café La Maison Smith: serious hot chocolate.
Caminar la Rue du Petit-Champlain: it looks like something a film director would have invented.

Courchevel — Après-Ski Without the Ski

Courchevel is perfect for those who love the après aesthetic but have zero interest in the slopes. Iconic boutiques, ridiculously pretty views, and hotels that feel like they’ve been designed down to the molecule. Bring your best coat, order a chilled white wine, and let the Alps do their thing.

My recommendations:
Le Cap Horn: the most après lunch après without having to ski.
Boutique L’Ekipe — ultra-curated pieces for lovers of winter style.
Le 1947 at Cheval Blanc: The only 3-Michelin-star restaurant in Courchevel. A sensory and ultra-refined experience with the stamp of Yannick Alléno. Ideal for a dinner that feels like edible art.

Winter can be as stylish and soulful as you want it to be. And if skiing isn’t on your list? Don’t worry — these destinations are even better when you’re simply there to enjoy them.

XOXO

Sira.
