Ideas for decorating your Thanksgiving table and celebrating in style
Thanksgiving is all about sharing a festive meal with your loved ones. And, it’s one of my favorite days of the year because it kicks off the holiday season and also reminds us what we’re thankful for. Clearly, the focus of this celebration is the food, so be sure to decorate a table that looks just as good. Below are some ideas for making your space look special. Let’s get creative and decorate the best Thanksgiving table ever!
It’s a good idea to stay on theme and decorate around the turkey. After all, it is turkey day! Go for tableware with a classy turkey image or just a small reference on the napkin rings or other accessories. Personally, I don’t like to overload my table with turkey paraphernalia, but a tasteful detail can definitely set the mood of the celebration.
Another great idea—which is easy to achieve and looks very elegant—is to set the table all in one hue (white, ideally) and put an autumn-themed centerpiece in the middle. My favorite centerpieces are those that run the length of the table and contain colors like mustard and orange. You can buy one or make your own with leaves, pine cones, candles…whatever feels right! Children love this activity and it makes them feel like they’re helping with the prep work. Just make sure that your centerpiece is not too high, and that your guests can still see one another. There is nothing more annoying than not being able to see the person you’re talking to.
Another excellent idea is to really get into theme, using wooden placemats for a rustic look. You can decorate with nature motifs and elements like mini pumpkins as focal pieces. Add napkin rings and name card holders in the same theme, and try to use natural materials that contrast with your tableware. My favorites are ones made from wood or worn metals and they really reinforce the shabby chic look. And, always use cloth napkins, so matter what type of table decor you choose.
Finally, I also love some very grown-up decorations. For a more luxurious Thanksgiving experience, light up the table with metallic accents. The key is to add elegant accents in the way of cups, candles, glasses or plates that give your dining room table some glow-up. Gold is always festive, and it’s the perfect table decoration color if you want to wow your guests. In the end, whatever you decide will look great. After all, the most important thing is gathering with people you love. Enjoy the holiday and be thankful for them.
